When should I draft a QB in a 2QB league?

Hi, Moishe,

I’m wondering when I should draft my first QB in a 2qb league that I’m starting later this summer. This is my first time in this league.

Hey Ben,

Feel free to write back with more specifics about your league — roster size, number of teams, scoring format, starting lineups. In general, though, I think that QBs should be the first three picks (at least) of a standard 2QB draft, and another few should go in the first round. I wouldn’t balk if I saw over half the picks in the first two rounds be quarterbacks.

That being said, the balance is anticipating whether or not your league-mates will value quarterbacks properly (i.e., that high). If they don’t, then you might be able to sneak in a position player in the first couple of rounds and still get a top-10 QB later. Or trade down for value.

Odds are that that’s a risk that I wouldn’t take. When you’re up, if there’s a QB that you love, then I’d grab him. And I would be fully comfortable with QBs being your first two — or even three or four of your first five! — picks.

Good luck!
